How was your Christmas? Has the whirlwind settled down yet? Are you in holiday hangover mode?
My kids are in the misbehavin and unsettled post-christmas thing. You know that thing that happens after the overstimulation and mega overindulgence on stuff.
Time to reorganize, get into a good routine, succeed and fail at some resolutions
Christmas Eve outfits were just not going to happen here. I had way too much going on and was super behind. I was planning to make fresh pj shirts with my Heather Ross strawberries for the girls to wear Christmas Eve, but my mom sent new pj's for all the kids. Feeling off the hook for those, I made hooded tees instead.
Then I went to Joann's to get a gift card and left with some black and white plaid flannel shirting and red interlock. Honestly, I have always hated this interlock they have. It's just yuck to me. But it's red and available so I got a little bit. I know, so romantic. But the plaid shirting....I actually love this stuff. It's very thick and soft and not expensive. I could see it as a blazer or jacket.
Somewhere in the crazy part of my brain I thought that with everything else happening I should make a skirt for Clover and pants for the skirt hater.
Not only did the outfits get done in time, but I got another major project done on Christmas Eve. That's stuff for another post.
Clover got an unlined Oliver and S swingset skirt because there was neither time, nor yardage, to line that thing. I made facing for the waistband instead. I really like this pattern. It's a half circle skirt (I think, anyway) so there's a great drape and twirl.
Violet got harem pants based on the Brindille And Twig harem pants pattern, but with extra crotch droppage, skinnied legs, pockets, and a faux placket. Jumping on the harem wagon took me a long time, but Violet does rock the baggy crotch.
^^Clover has apparently been practicing her model poses
Tees are the flashback skinny tee with hoods drafted a while ago from an eddie bauer sweatshirt. I think I forgot that there wasn't neckline seam allowance on my pattern piece, so the hoods are snug. But you know what, the girls LOVE THEM. No joke. They wear these shirts without coercion and flip the hoods up constantly.
Both shirts are hybrid sized with scooped out necklines.
Not very conventional for Christmas OR church, but both kids loved their outfits. Clover said she feels "cute" in hers.
I'm glad I went with the swingset skirt for hers. There wasn't technically enough fabric for it and I was going to make a simple gathered box skirt, but I was scared she would look like a Soviet secretary (you're just going to have to use your imagination to decide what that means) with the thick plaid in a below the knee length like she wanted.
I ended up cutting apart my yardage and serging it back together in pieces till there was a surface big enough to cut the back skirt piece from. Dr. Frankenstein would be proud.
Pardon the somewhat obscure reference, but as soon as I saw the above picture of Violet I saw young Bono and his super goofy dancing. Exhibit A is a grainy frame from the I Will Follow video. Omg......Rockstars don't always start cool.
Here is the actual video for your edification
I've got a few other things to share from the Christmas gift archives and a little bit of fun news coming up as well. Have a wonderful New Year's Eve! I'll be celebrating with a 20$ bottle of champagne (classy up in this joint) and maybe staying up till 10:30 with the man. Par-tay.
walk away walk away
ReplyDeleteLove all of it! Super cute outfits and girls!
Laughed out loud at the Russian secretary thing. I have no idea what you are imagining, but I wish I did! I agree with the horrible JoAnn interlock. No stretch and the worst texture. blech. But, I buy it, too.
soviet secretary! i think i get it!!! haha.
ReplyDeletelove the strawberry hoodie shirts, though! i've still got some scraps from the nessie top, might be able to eek something out for Em. love that plaid, too. apparently need to get to JoAnns!
OH EM GEE....that video made me laugh so hard. Especially when Bono breaks it down with the crazy eyes close up "your eyes make a circle..." Love your outfits for your cutest little girlies. I need to sew more for my girls, they are so neglected. I may have to pick up some of that plaid, every now and then Joanns makes something good.
ReplyDeleteOh, harem pants..."poopy pants" as Michael Kors calls 'em...I just cut too sweets baby harem pattern and have yet to sew them up because I'm not sure I like them either. BUT. Your kid totally rocks these- love love love that plaid.
