owl pj's

Clover had pj's from costco that got worn to death until the knees were bare from crawling on her floor, and the butt was all saggy and dirty looking even while clean. I couldn't look at them anymore, so the bottoms got tossed in the trash. Miss saggy butt was not at all pleased with this, because it threw her carefully ordered pattern of "owl pj's, fairy pj's, owl pj's, fairy pj's, owl pj's, fairy pj's over and over like that." 

"But I can't wear pajamas unless they have owls on them!!!" She seemed so genuinely disturbed that I headed to Finch and grabbed a yard of the owl thermal she's had stocked there next to the zebras I used on Violet's hoodie and pants.

There was this time about a few posts or so ago where I said I would do something other than a flashback skinny tee next. Liar! The top is a 4T FBST. Bottoms are made by mutilating an old pair of leggings and using the parts as pattern pieces. Clover saw the pieces of her purple leggings all mangled on my sewing table, and had some words for me.   

Clover took a break from her and Violet's wild reenactment of their daddy's Skryim game. "A fire trap! I'm fighting a dragon!" Clang, thump, crash.

 

My lovely chartreuse ribbing was used again. Love that stuff. 

On the waistband I tried to imitate the one on her old pj's and line the elastic up along the top raw wrong side edge of the pants, serge the edge, and then fold it all down the wrong side to sew it down. Not sure that makes sense, but it turned out really well. I like that the elastic can't shift or twist.

There was a major meltdown over the shirt feeling loose on the first night, and she kept yanking at it and making noises of anguish. Since then she's come to terms with it. 

These have been washed at least three times already and I'm finally getting pictures. That's the nature of the three kid circus! I either have time to sew or time to write, but apparently not both. lol. Ok maybe I don't even have time to sew, but am trying.

I've got an art project to share that's kind of fun, and one thing inching itself along on my sewing table. It feels like I get maaaaaybe a seam sewn before I have to quit and do more practical things like feed people or excavate messes.
