Making things makes me happy. It brings order and satisfaction to my mind. I also enjoy blogging. It brings community and connectedness to the isolation that can come with the early years with kids. But my biggest responsibility and joy is the family I've been blessed with. So since I haven't been able to do much making or blogging lately, I'm just going to share some of what HAS been happening.
Teaching Clover to finger knit. She did remarkably well. This girl has a pretty keen sense of patterns and systems, so she picked up the rhythm of finger knitting quickly. I still helped her quite a bit, but she was very proud of her work.
Handsome Mr. Hawthorne has been getting the best naps of the day on outdoor adventures with the girls. He hasn't been sleeping so well otherwise on many days, so walks are good for all of us.
Clover has been practicing her spelling and writing by choosing people to send letters to. I demonstrate how to spell and write what she wants to say, and she copies. I think its a wonderful way to learn! Meaningful work is good for people of all ages.
Recently, Clover also came to us and said she wrote a word. She sounded something out on her own for the first time. Interesting choice of word.....
My midwife gave the girls a working stethoscope. Not only have they learned to use it, but they can both pronounce it too. Lol!
We got to watch landscapers cut down dead trees and grind down the stumps. Then we got to play in the holes! They were "giant footprints". Clover filled a couple with pine cones.
Violet has been honing her mom skills. She announces every few seconds that he's smiling at her. Even when he's so totally not. I love her outlook on life! AND her face.
The kids are catching my enthusiasm for the beginning of fall (ahem, the end of summer)
Violet was already into black, but ever since she saw the Lego Batman movie it's been ON. She dresses herself, and often the black leggings are inside out and backwards, as well as her shirt.
She got to pick out her first pair of new shoes. Black high tops with spiderman on the back. She LOVES them.
I read the Wizard Of Oz to the girls in its entirety. Clover, after a fake snooze in the grass, jumped up and said "ah! what a long nap in the poppy field!" Dude. Pee my pants funny.
Violet sits in on some homeschool action.
Violet is hilarious in the back seat of the car while we nurse Hawthorne in a parking lot. That boy has nursed everywhere, man! He's like a tiny Johnny Cash.
He's also had some major rounds of crying from time to time, which leads to glossy eyed, exhausted snuggling afterwards. My sweet boy. Love love love him.
Clover has big moments of caring for her brother, though she's much more subtle than Violet the love monster. She chose an outfit for her baby brother yesterday and lovingly brought it to him. How could you not want to nurture that face! He's 9 weeks tomorrow.
So while the making at the sewing table hasn't been on fire, we're making memories with little people.
i totally heart your little people :)
