Briar Rose (rather) simple skirt

Normally I'm late to the party when it comes to new fabrics, and I was going to ride this one out too. But Briar Rose sucked me in. I'm pretty sure a tractor beam sucked me into Finch Sewing Studio with some scrounged cash from doing haircuts. Somehow a half yard of two prints from the new line found their way into my house and onto my kids. 

You like those green bean teeth she's got up there? I couldn't say no to her munching on frozen green beans while I snapped pictures.

 

When I got the fabric, I told myself "please, nothing complicated....just make two super simple skirts. Fold the top over for an elastic waistband, hem the bottom. Be done"

And I tried. But then super simple morphed into "mostly simple" and then eventually into "rather simple". Violet's skirt wound up with two pintuck pleats at the bottom, a contrast waistband with, GASP, essex linen. yeah, prepare to see that pop up in just about everything for a while. 

And I also threw a Lego "Omi" pocket on there for her too. She calls the minifigs Omi's, which is now the family name for them. Toddler words stick. She likes hauling an Omi around with her, so the tiny pocket is just the right size.

The artwork on this fabric is so vintage and sweet. I'm afraid I didn't capture it in my photos, but maybe I'll get some better ones when I photograph Clover's skirt. Frogs are one of Violet's favorite things, so I immediately thought of her when I saw those little guys. 

So I managed to cram some kids clothes week in this summer afterall. Now maybe this baby I've been carrying around for months and months will come out?

For fun I pulled out this shot of Violet on her second birthday, sporting the freshly made Omi shirt she got that day. She's turning three next month. Now I'm going to go cry.....The shirt has stood up to a full year of very very very regular wear, though. And the person inside of it has only gotten cuter.
