Little Things To Sew tutu // a handmade christmas gift only about a year late or so

Little things to sew tutu

This is one of those handmade items that feels like the worst freaking idea ever while you're on your hands and knees on the kitchen floor in the middle of the night, tangled in so much tulle that you're imagining those "if you lined it all up in a row it would reach to the moon and back. 20 times!!" kind of illustrations. Plus the baby keeps waking up crying, and all you want to do is hit the wine box and veg on the couch with the hot guy in the other room.

But then the girl who specifically requested a new tutu for Christmas opens it up and is transported to a magical ballerina land on a sea of sighs and thank you's and you suddenly know why you did it.

This tutu was a long time coming. I had ordered supplies for it to make each of the girls one last Christmas, but then was so ill and lifeless from a mystery issue with my pregnancy and couldn't even decorate the tree, let alone wrestle with tulle.

After dragging out my crumpled tulle and getting this one done for Clover, I decided Violet was fine not getting one too. She was getting her lego cape shirt and I couldn't bring myself to fuss with any more tutus.

Clover LOVES it.

I decided on using the wine colored tulle on top. There's pink in the middle and peach at the bottom, though peach can be the top since it's reversible.

The pattern is from the Oliver and S Little Things To Sew book. As usual, the results of an O+S pattern are sweet and polished, and the instructions were great.

I like that it's different than your average tutu. Clover likes things extra long and fluffy like the princesses of her dreams, so I didn't trim the ends at all.

Sibling love

And how sweet are these two? Hawthorne is enamored of his sisters. He lights up and laughs when he catches sight of their faces, and they chase him around shrieking and squealing like Justin Timberlake groupies. It's good stuff.

  7. Yeah, I have such limited exposure to it, but even I know that tulle is evil. Oh, but it's so beautiful and her joy must definitely make it worth it!! Love the color you chose for the top.
