Two year old Violet's favorite color is black. And she loves legos. So when she made a very specific request for a new black minifig shirt with "a black Omi (minifig) with a black head and hands and feet", I totally believed she meant it.
Obviously black on black presents itself with some difficulties.
I assumed she wasn't going to accept a black shirt with the explanation that the black guy is there, he's just hidden....He's a ninja, Violet.
Eventually I decided to do an outline silhouette. My other idea was appliqueing a black minifig on with bright piping around it.
Some great offense from her sister was just taken here....
A thrifted black shirt was sacrificed to become this modded version of Rae's flashback skinny tee in a 2T - subtly A-lined, lower scooped neck, and altered sleeve shape for a more girly silhouette.
The sleeve shape is sort of lost in the fact that it's loose on her tiny little body.
I cut a minifig body out of freezer paper for the stencil, and then cut a square frame out, pressed the frame to the shirt, floated the minifig in the middle and pressed it too, then painted in the negative space with a mixture of cream colored fabric paint and a touch of magenta for a light pink.
Though apparently unimpressed and a bit surly in these shots, Violet actually does love her shirt. She keeps grinning and telling me so. As she stared at pictures of herself in it she slowly got a big smile on her face and burst out with "I LIKE IT!"
It's a pretty dang comfy little shirt for a cute little person.
super cute, and i love that you were able to bring her dream to life. nice thinkin' there!
