KCWC monday

^^^ promo button for Kids Clothes Week Challenge, yet eerily similar to my photos. For those not in the know, KCWC is basically a big huge online crafting community pledge to make a list of things to sew, spend at least an hour a day for a week getting your list done, and putting your photos up on the Elsie Marley flickr page. It's lots of fun, and you get to see some really neat stuff. Also you can make new friends and discover blogs!

So, during the last KCWC, I decided not to participate because we were in the middle of tearing the floors of our house apart, including my sewing space in the kitchen, and my husband was constantly absorbed in trying to get the project done. With no space to sew, and constant kid duty, I knew it wouldn't go well. But then everyone was talking about it and getting excited and I decided to just try anyway. It was a complete and utter disaster, and made me and everyone else miserable. 

Fast forward to now, and the next wave of KCWC is upon us. Based on the success of my attempts at sewing anything these days, I knew that it would be really stupid to think that I could try sewing every day and getting a bunch done. One thing I've learned is that if I make a plan and set my mind to do something, it usually gets blown to pieces by life and I get upset. So once again I chose to not play the game with all the cool kids, but then got sad when it actually started. So I am doing KCWC-lite. No real expectations, but I'm giving it a shot.

And because yesterday happened to be a holiday in which the man was home, and was so full of activity that the 2 year old non-sleeper actually went to bed at a godly hour, I can honestly say that I got my time in! So hey, one day of success.  Granted, I technically started this dress before KCWC, but I definitely got a solid hour  or more in to get it totally finished and ready to wear. All without any yelling, screaming, meltdowns, disasters, or excessive seam ripping....Because really I can't sit down to sew without having to rip something out. It's like my trademark at this point. Plus I finished up Violet's Wild Thing Wolf suit.

 

Despite the friggin Barney purple that Clover insisted on (I wanted teal! But she was so insistent and opinionated, and it was going to be her dress, that I granted her wish) I really love how this dress came out. Last time I did the A view which didn't have the neckline flaps. I wanted something nautical to add on and finally settled on whales. 

These are my love whales. 

The purple is an organic sheet set that I got on sale at Target. The yardage! Oh the yardage!

And the chambray is (If I remember correctly) Robert Kaufman carolina chambray from fabric.com. I've got plenty more of Barney to make lots more stuff out of, so I better start convincing myself that I'm in love with it. Honestly, it does feel great... so there's that. 

The last one fit great so I stuck with the 18 month size, lengthened to a 4T with even more added on to the skirt. 

 

And a nice yellow vintage button on the back. I'm hoping to get a star wars themed t-shirt or two done for little Goggles (Violet) this week. We went on a wild goose chase for freezer paper to make stencils with today. Come on Target. No freezer paper?
