wood floor progress!

Tim took Wednesday-Friday off last week in order to finish getting the floor down in the living room. I'm kicking myself right now for not taking a time lapse sequence of photos every day since we started doing this room. The furniture has moved countless times, and the destruction moved from one wall to the other. Every time I came downstairs from our room the place looked different! I didn't even take a decent before picture, and I've always done my best to keep our carpet OUT of photos in the past. 

There was no way to keep the kids out of the work area all the time, so we just dealt with it. They were doing some work along with their daddy. Several times I was horrified to see Violet wielding a hammer and trying to whack at the trigger spot on the nail gun.

 

 

These are the new floor vents we chose. I think they're pretty neat. 

 

This wood is so cool. It's so weird. Suits us just fine...

 

I scored this nice BIG Persian rug at a yard sale the other week. 15$!! I'm really glad I grabbed it too because the rug we bought at Ikea for not much money isn't going to work out in the living room. At least for now. For one, it's not big enough for the main living space, and on top of that it is offgassing this awful smell that I can't handle. 

 

This is a very weird angle for a photo, but it's the best way I could get a shot of as much floor as possible. It's installed from wall to wall in the living room! We still need molding and I have some painting to finish up, but all the floor is in. The stairs going down to the bottom floor also need to be done, but that doesn't really interfere with our lives like the main floor does. 

 

I suppose I could have cleaned before taking these pictures, right? Lol. But doesn't it look nice so far? None of the furniture is in its place yet, and we still have stacks of wood boxes, the air compressor and the nail gun in our space. But I am so grateful to not have tar paper and plywood everywhere. The room is a lot brighter and more pleasant with this new floor and freshly painted light gray walls. I'm now realizing just how hard it is to take a nice indoors photo that truly represents what everything really looks like. Especially when there is a lack of good natural light. Being a town house, only two sides of the house could possibly get sun, and the sun rises and sets from our left and sets on our right. That means that it never actually shines right into any of our windows that well.
