Kids Clothes Week // Day Three - Lightning Bolt Leggings
Yesterday I had this notion that today would be a pretty productive sewing day. That inspiration and fortune would strike. We would be awash in stunning kids clothes, lovingly and speedily crafted by me as the children play and create at my feet.
Well, I did manage to squeeze a third pair of leggings out of this morning.
Truthfully, I think I'm lucky to have gotten that after surviving one of those parenting nights of legend. The kind with a sad groaning kid thrashing around your bed for half the night with a terrible stomach ache, followed by the reappearance of the one dinner in quite a while she actually finished.
In your bed.
Waking the baby
The turning on of the shower and quick shucking of defiled bedding. Realizing you haven't got another blanket readily available to replace the comforter. Wondering why you haven't finished the damn Star Wars quilt yet.
Violet suffered her first throwing up last night and woke up this morning just fine. I on the other hand, staggered through this day like the undead.
Violet also got the leggings she was so devastated about not getting yesterday. I thought she would be stoked on her thunder thigh leggings (what my husband called them as he greeted her after work), but she just cried because there wasn't a matching shirt. She's a girl who knows what she wants... For the few seconds she feels so strongly about it anyway. Then she's off to something else.
What I'm proud of: The lightning bolts are positioned pretty great if I might say so myself. I tried to get them forward enough on the thighs to be visible from the front, but avoiding making lightning look like it's bursting from her crotch. Nobody, aside from the rare breed of the Gagas and Mileys, wants that.
They also fit well. I did a combo of 18m/2t and skipped hemming them. Perfect.
What I'm not proud of: Every time I used this weird slinky rayon jersey stuff I always have a hard time telling the direction of the grain/stretch/whatever. Yet again I managed to cut this in the wrong direction. Thankfully it has a lot of up and down stretch and they wear fine, but still. Come on. There's ONE pattern piece that needs to be mirrored. I managed to NOT mirror it on one pair of leggings and then cut in the wrong direction on another.
"Violet, look super."
^^^^^^^ that's what she does. Wall squats? I guess that's pretty super.
If you're curious about her rather odd shirt, go check out the Sewing Rabbit blog tomorrow *wink wink* It's my debut!
Like my previous KCW creations, I used the Oliver and S playtime leggings pattern.
I'm not sure where this gold bug thing I've got came from, but the theme seems to be "gold all the things" lately. I've got some gold sequin trim here that's waiting to become awesome on something.
thunder thighs!!! i love tim. these leggings are fantastic, love all the gold. glad to hear she's better today - i was pretty surprised to get that text from you at 1am! who are you, Rider? ;)

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the vomit - I truly am... But I laughed heartily at your accounting of it. The aorta shirt!!!! You did it - you completed the tutorial and it looks like you did so very well! I can't wait to make that shirt. Oddly, I just posted about a heart shirt that I made:) We need to sew together sometime.
