tumble tee blog tour + giveaway

Once again, I've been blessed with the opportunity to sew up a pattern and join a blog tour. My friend Rachael, maker of the roly roly pinafore pattern I turned into a bee outfit a while ago, has come up with a new PDF pattern for the Tumble Tee (didn't she JUST make the last one? talk about quick work!) for a tee/tunic/dress with built in cap sleeves.

The Imagine Gnats tumble tee has got options for color blocking and mixing up fabrics to keep you amused while whipping out various versions of the pattern in record time. Really, it takes longer to print and tape your PDF than it does to sew one of these! The pattern ranges from 6m-10 years too so you can pretty much use it forever.

I chose to make the bare bones version of the pattern - no color blocking, and the tee length - because I wanted to add a freezer paper stencil. Mine is in a 4T. It was super easy coming together and done in a flash! I think it would be cute blocked with a yoke at the top next time. Maybe with something lacy for the top?

So, the pattern may have been a breeze to sew, but getting anyone to model for me was not. One night I casually asked Clover what she would want on a tee, and without hesitation she answered "unicorn". OK! Done. She gets what she wants, she is a happy model....right? No.

It doesn't have long sleeves. In summertime. Perfect reasoning! But little plan B, Violet, is always pretty cooperative....

Nope. She was having none of the posing either, though she was happy to wear the shirt around for the rest of the day and then drip butter all over under the unicorn's mouth. Now he looks like he's foaming and rabid. Time for a rainbow puke applique?

So here's another shot of the wall modeling my cute creation. I used the same fabric as the first cape tee and tried out using some of the Martha Stewart multi purpose craft paint mixed with her fabric medium. Selection for fabric paint at my Joanns makes me curdle, so I was pretty excited about the possibility of a different option. Martha's colors are pretty awesome too.

I'm mixed on the result. The color and coverage is great. It may have needed a bit more fabric medium though, because it's much stiffer than when I use Jacquard fabric paint. We'll see what happens with both the fabric paint and the rabid butter drippage after a trip through the wash.

Violet briefly stopped moving and frowning for a phone call to the atmosphere. She swims in the shirt, but it was made for her bigger sister. Despite the swimmage, I actually think she looks pretty cute in it. Clover has been in need of some options for pajamas, and I was hoping this would end up being part of the rotation. Maybe in winter when it's freezing ass cold. Then it will be time for short sleeves.

"what? no, I'm not busy...just frustrating my poor one week post partum mother"

"this isn't helpful? laying on the floor on top of the tee shirt you're trying to photograph isn't helpful? bah...unreasonable nag!"

"what about a shot of my cute tiny little butt?"

  2. Hi there! I just followed you over from instagram, and I love your blog and your space over here. It seems that I find people a little easier on instagram, from all walks of life, so I was thrilled when you were also a sewer! And blogger! I mean, who doesn't need another blog to find inspiration from? I have 3 little ones too, although in a stage ahead of where you seem to be right now. Congratulations on your new little one, he is precious. It made me tear up, your instagram photos and words, because I all at once was flooded with those memories, and then dismayed that those memories were a little too hazy. This is a bit much for a blog comment (and one that so far has nothing to do with your post). So, on to the post...we love a unicorn shirt around here, too! Also, models are divas.

  11. You did exponentially more in your first week home with your (super super cute) newborn than I did in the first three months. There should be an award for that. Love the tee, btw!
Does Tinkerbell count I actually just want the glitter dust to be able to fly... ;)
