Miss serious pants has a new shirt (but no new brother yet....hello and goodbye due date), since I had some time and extra fabric on my hands
Truthfully, this may be one of my most favorite sewn items so far. Something about all the elements together - design, colors, etc.
Violet had been insisting that she needed a zebra shirt to go with her zebra pants
While I don't fully support the wearing of matching zebra items outside of bedtime, I appreciated the need for more striped beasts on her bod and came up with this.
The use of a different color solid to go with it than I used with the pants was intentional, because I didn't want her looking like she had a track suit on if she wore both things together. Not that chartreuse and citrus yellow are all THAT different, but they work together without being the same.
She loves it about as much as I do, and probably would just as much if I added a pocket for her ever-present Omi (minifig)
We've had some Omi drama round here the past few days because her favorite guys, Gummer and Bummer, who are two very generic looking minifigs from a couple of Lego creator sets, have disappeared someplace in our house. For the time being, a new guy named Stacker is filling their place.
Once again, I've used the Rae flashback skinny tee as a base to work from. I made short sleeve pattern pieces and traced off a hood from a hoodie we own to make a pattern for myself. It crosses over itself ever so perfectly in the front, which was a happy accident.
To add a bit of weight to the bottom of the shirt so the weight of the hood pulling at the top was more balanced, I added a contrast band to the bottom. The chartreuse ribbing is heavier than the thermal, which is kind of weird if you think about it. Now that it's on, I think the band at the bottom gives everything a nice color balance too.
The extra band at the bottom does make the shirt too long, so oops on that. I didn't think to add it till I was about to hem everything, or I would have reduced the length of the main fabric a bit to begin with.
Is a short sleeved thermal hoodie unusual/weird? Once I finished it, I stared at it a bit and tried to think if I had ever seen a combo like that before. It didn't seem strange in my head when I was dreaming it up, but once it was out I began to wonder....
Now that I've made this, I think there will be opportunities for some fun long sleeved versions with other design details in the Fall. yay! Kangaroo pockets! Elbow patches!
I love all the zebra-ness happening at your house! I hope that baby comes sooner rather than later.
ReplyDeletesooooo adorable!!
ReplyDeletecome on, babyyyy!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! I don't think the hood makes it weird at all, just cute! My little boy was given a short sleeve button down shirt with a hood once, I wasn't sure about that one... Hope your little man decides to come soon!!!
