headache in a suitcase

organized space

Organization. Not my strong point. Like, Martha Stewart would cry if she were a fly on my wall....and possibly prefer going back to the regimented atmosphere of prison life rather than live one more minute in my haphazard, ADD, hanging by a thread of sanity ways of keeping a house running.

It's not that I dislike organization. Chaos actually drives me nuts. Which means that I drive me nuts. Kind of inconvenient.  My kids also generate chaos by nature, so no wonder my mind feels like it's slipping most of the time.

My sewing table gradually got swallowed by a multiplying tangle of unknown contents. "I should keep this out since I probably want to do something with it soon". Prelude to a mess.

I also saw my husband eyeballing the vintage suitcase I love so much during one of our thrift store donation sweeps. It was meant to be a super awesome dress up chest for my kids, but just sat empty in their room. Le sigh.

Granted, this will probably turn into a ridiculous mess in about a week, as any receptacle in a convenient location becomes in my presence....But for now I've organized my fabric mess and safely justified the hoarding of the suitcase.

The top layer of fabric consists of the star wars quilt I have been picking at and growing tired of. Who knew that if you stared at colors you thought you liked for long enough, you would eventually want them to just go away forever? Curse you, star wars quilt.  Beneath that are some fabrics I'd like to work with soon, but will probably forget about now that I can't see them again. Maybe everything just needs to be hanging on a clothes line across my kitchen?

The pocket is housing a few patterns that I'm either working on or want to work on soon. Until I decide that the pocket is way easier to deposit patterns back into when I'm done, rather than walk to the bookshelf.  Let's be realistic.

The secret compartment holds scraps, which I have no great plan for other than to shove back there till they don't fit anymore. Sorry, Martha.

  1. Girl, it looks great! My sewing room is a tragedy right now. I can't even. Ugh. One day it shall be clean but nooo before pictures. Suffice it to say, I can relate to all of the above!!

  2. I bet that secret scrap section gets a work out. Lovely little case! I would love a proper sewing room - I am squished into a corner in the dining room... but I do have a super awesome $10 sewing table/cabinet. (which hides all my fabric and patterns behind it on our bookcase!)

  3. You. are. awesome. You seem to be a real person I can quite relate too! Many blogs make me feel inadequate because everything seems so perfect (which I know is not true, but that is how it is often shown). So thank you for being real! :)
