Kids Clothes Week - Day 3

Violet likes her new outfit. She says she looks like a bumblebee, which she thinks is awesome.

Pattern is Figgy's Banyan pants, fabric is yellow linen from Joann's. I made the 18 mo size for Violet, which ended up being surprisingly ginormous on her little tiny body. But she's got plenty of room to move and play and filthify herself in her new pants.

Those are some high functioning pockets for carrying things around in. Currently, a lego minifig is making residence in there.

She was definitely the coolest kid on the playground today. Clover came in at a close second by virtue of the gaudy mismatched socks under a pair of sparkly pink shoes.

During our photo shoot Violet managed to cake her butt in dirt and spill bubble liquid on herself.

My sewing machine was a real jerk about sewing these pants. It decided to boycott the zig zag stitch, which was highly annoying given the fact that my serger is de-threaded at the moment after its own total meltdown.

Trying to finish seam allowances inside these pants was infuriating, and the sewing machine was inspected, re threaded, oiled, tinkered with, cleaned, re-bobbined (wherein it also jacked up the winding of a whole bobbin and wasted a ton of yellow gutermann thread). Eventually I figured out that if I left the stitch width at 2 and not 3 it wouldn't skip stitches and I could go on with life.

Twice I ran out of bobbin thread with about an inch left to go on a seam. Once I sewed an entire leg up without knowing I was out of thread. I'm awesome!

After fitting her for length at the very end, I decided to hack about 2.5 inches off and then hem them up another 1.5". That gave me just about the right amount to be able to cuff the hem and leave room to grow.

Now that I have these two things done, I'm really not sure what's next. There are a few ideas floating around in my mind, and Clover still wants a tank top. I've got some knit that my imagination keeps making into some sort of shorts for the girls. And there are several castoff button down shirts that ought to be turned into something too. We'll see!
