The kids now own (since last week when my memory card evaporated) my version of the bear carrier from the Oliver + S Little Things To Sew book. It's made of natural linen, cotton batting, and Children At Play by Sarah Jane. I thought the Sarah Jane gave it that whimsical feel that I wanted for this project. It was pretty sweet getting to center the print on the little girl in the center. The pattern is supposed to have a pocket on it, but it would have covered up the girl.
At first I thought this would pretty much be for Clover, since I had seen her trying to use other things as baby carriers. Turns out Violet is more nurturing. It DID take Clover over two years to kiss me.....
Dude, this girl meant business this morning. I don't know what it was with her and the badass scowl, but she must have been channeling that mama grizzly mindset.
One thing I changed after finishing it was to remove the velcro that is supposed to go where the yellow button is, and put in buttons and buttonholes. It really wasn't secure with just the velcro, and my kids are way too mobile to keep it fastened. Any excuse to throw a bit of mustard button on my quilt sandwich. I still haven't finished the edges of the strap ends like you're supposed to. Oopsies
Clover is parked in the middle of the walking path with a book on marriage. There is a metaphor in there somewhere, but So You Think You Can Dance starts in 4 minutes and I want to get this business finished, and haven't the time to ponder it.
omg.....airplane!
Sigh. Gorgeous baby.
I love it!!! The little girl placement is perfect!! Between your little things to sew hat...and this...I'm thinking I really ought to buy that book!! :) Oh, and the Olympics has gotten me behind on SYTYCD...oops, gotta catch up!
ReplyDeleteSo disappointed. I thought tonight sytycd started back up, but it was a rerun. You haven't missed anything since the show went on break for the Olympics. The little things book is totally worth it. Either get it from amazon or take a 50% off Joann coupon in for it. That's what I did when I realized my store carried a ton of great books. Now if they could just get more high quality fabrics.....
DeleteShe is gorgeous. Those eyes! love your fabric on the carrier and the buttons too. You are the super coolest.
ReplyDeleteHer eyes get her out of a lot of trouble. I'm powerless. She pooped on the floor and rubbed it into a Melissa and Doug toy today and I was over it like 5 minutes later. Heinous.
DeleteI love it! So awesome. Jane loves to play momma, too.
ReplyDeleteDo you think anyone noticed that the baby is one legged?.....LOL! That was my first baby doll. It's survived a lot, including someone trying to flush her down the toilet when I was little.
DeleteSo very sweet. Love the fabrics you've chosen and your little girls r adorbs.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You are one of my queens of style so it means a lot ^_^
DeleteOmigosh your girlies are ADORABLE. Great work on the baby carrier - I did the velcro on mine and it definitely comes unstuck a few times per wear. The buttons are a great idea - could even do multiple buttonholes along the strap for growth!
ReplyDeleteI did a second set of buttons on the shoulder for bigger babies/animals, but I think I will be adding extra buttonholes for the bottom eventually too. It's so cute watching the kids carry around their friends in it!
DeleteI love the carrier! Violet is growing so quickly, when I first started reading your blog she was just a baby and now she's a little girl :-) clover is growing too!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit disconcerting looking back at photos from not that long ago and seeing that she's really not a baby anymore. Ahh! She is still very much the baby of the family though.
DeleteGreat job hun! so adorbs!!!!
ReplyDelete*muah muah* ^_^
