Kid A pixie hat

After I saw this Radiohead robe on A Little Gray, I got this idea in my head for putting a minotaur from some Radiohead artwork on something for the kids. Violet is in love with the smaller version of this little pixie hat that I made from some old sweatpants, but it's too small for her head now. I thought it was time to make a bigger one soon, so my mind stamped some Radiohead art on it, and to the sewing machine I went! 

 

It's the snow pixie hat from sew liberated, and the pattern is free! I did the biggest size and increased the width of the binding pieces to give it a little more depth. The outer fabric is the organic slub knit that I made Clover's Banyan tee out of, and the teal fabric I used for the lining and stripe on the cuff is from an old Target dress. 

here are some examples of Radiohead style album art, which is what I used as my inspiration for the embroidery. to be honest, I totally don't know what I'm doing when it comes to embroidery. I'm pretty terrible at it, and I feel tortured the whole time I'm doing it. I really admire people who are good at this. Lol. 

My thought was to make the embroidery look like sketchy line drawing, and kind of messy, which totally served my inability to make it look nice and neat anyway. Oddly, I now think it might be harder to make an orderly mess out of your embroidery than it is to make a straight line.

At first I wasn't even going to include lettering in it, but I changed my mind at the last minute and went for kid A. I thought of the mountains on the cover of the album Kid A and decided to shade the letters on the hat so they gradually faded to white at the top, like a mountain. I guess I should have taken a closeup of the letters since it's hard to see it from a distance. 

Originally it didn't have the teal stripe on the outside, but after finishing it I was worried that it looked a little too "Klansman" so I cut that out and attached it. 

 

What do you think? She looks pretty friggin adorable in it, right? Next up for little Violet is a t-shirt with a lego head stenciled on it. She will be getting that for her second birthday, on the 17th. The girl loves her Legos. We're taking the kids to the Lego store in Tyson's Corner so they can fill some bags with their choice of blocks and people parts. I can't believe she is turning two! She's still the family baby in so many ways, but just in the past two weeks she suddenly seems so much older. Waaah!
